After entering the weekend as a top 10 team in the 3A classification, head coach Jake Huff\u2019s squad continued their strong start by mashing the ball in Carbondale.<\/p>\n<p>Junior Cory Carver led the way over the weekend, supplying the Panthers with eight hits and nine RBIs between the three contests. Carver continues to sustain a batting average above .500, while his teammates followed suit to the tune of 40 hits in their outings.<\/p>\n<p>The Panthers head to Durango with a full head of steam to face the Demons for a Tuesday, Apr. 8 afternoon clash in their lone action this week.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\"><strong>Friday, April 4<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>Monticello 5, Dove Creek 1<\/p>\n<p>Monticello 13, Dove Creek 3<\/p>\n<p>In contests played in Moab, Dove Creek dropped both meetings with the Buckaroos as the bats struggled to gain traction against tough Monticello pitching. Senior Sheldon Gardner and sophomore Cael Beanland collected a pair of hits on the afternoon, while sophomore Konnor Spigner blasted a two-run home run in the third inning of the second contest to cut the deficit to 4-2.<\/p>\n<p>However, Monticello responded with a flurry of runs in the final innings to close out the sweep.<\/p>\n<p>Dove Creek faces Dolores on Tuesday, April 8 for their home opener, followed by a meeting with Nucla the next day \u2013 with 3 p.m. opening pitches expected for both contests.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-element naviga-subheadline1\">Frank Woodburn Invitational (Grand Junction)<\/div>\n<p>Both MCHS and Dolores took their track and field teams to Stocker Stadium for the Frank Woodburn Invitational.
