Remote learning is mandatory for all Kemper Elementary School students through Oct. 22.<\/span>The Journal file<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Montezuma-Cortez school district has created a webpage to update parents and other stakeholders about the proposed elementary reorganization.<\/p>\n

The reorganization would change Kemper Elementary and Mesa Elementary from K-5 schools to one serving kindergarten through second grade and the other, third through fifth grades.<\/p>\n

During Board of Education meeting in March, Superintendent Tom Burris indicated that principals favored managing three grades instead of six.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs these conversations begin, the board has requested a website page so that parents, staff and community can see the data as it is collected,\u201d the website states. \u201cWe will add documents that are part of the conversation to this page as they become available.\u201d<\/p>\n

The page is at: www.cortez.k12.co.us.<\/a><\/p>\n

The page now contains the board\u2019s resolution to review the reorganization and the proposal from February 2025. It has staff feedback, pros and cons and a Q&A.<\/p>\n

It includes the district student count, financial impact of a reorganization and the Hanover Research study \u201cAnalysis of Elementary and Secondary Span Configuration.\u201d<\/p>\n

The webpage<\/a> comes before two parent meetings. The first is Tuesday, April 29, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mesa; and the second, Monday, May 5 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kemper.<\/p>\n
