It is in Farmington's Downtown Sculpture Exhibit.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Brad Ryan<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The city of Farmington\u2019s municipal art collection soon will grow by four works from area artists.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmington City Council voted April 25 to spend $26,475 on four sculptures featured in the 2024 Art in the Heart downtown sculpture exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t have a particular budget set aside for any of these things per se,\u201d Mayor Nate Duckett said. \u201cWe do have our Community Transformation Diversification Fund where this would come from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There were 11 sculptures to choose from, and Mayor Nate Duckett said \u201call of the pieces are fantastic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Duckett said he particularly liked the Warrior Protector, a metal and sandstone piece by Tamie Cottrell of La Plata.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis particular piece I found intriguing and would be valuable perhaps on the river way \u2013 the Riverwalk,\u201d Duckett said.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=37ca1db1-fb40-5fa7-8bd6-f23d30b46412&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2814\" alt=\"Sculptor Nathan Johansen, of Provo, Utah, stands next to his sculpture \u201cMaple Seed\u201d in the Art in the Heart downtown sculpture exhibit in Farmington.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Sculptor Nathan Johansen, of Provo, Utah, stands next to his sculpture \u201cMaple Seed\u201d in the Art in the Heart downtown sculpture exhibit in Farmington.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Brad Ryan<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>He also liked Maple Seed, a bronze sculpture by Nathan Johansen, of Provo, Utah.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just reminds me of my childhood and walking down the sidewalk throwing maple seeds in the air like helicopters,\u201d Duckett said, adding he heard some people might like to see it placed at the Farmington Civic Center.<\/p>\n<p>Councilor Linda Rodgers also liked Maple Seed and Walking, a weathered steel piece by Jerry Severns, of Denver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the art project has been awesome for our community,\u201d Rodgers said. \u201cI too like the Warrior Protector. I really like the \u2018Little Cowboy\u2019; I feel like for our area that is a historical element.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=f285f1a8-59de-5464-b587-0be8586ec84b&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"1058\" height=\"717\" alt=\"The father of sculptor Lawrence Starck, of Loveland, Colorado, watches as city crew members place the statue in Farmington's Downtown Sculpture Exhibit.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">The father of sculptor Lawrence Starck, of Loveland, Colorado, watches as city crew members place the statue in Farmington's Downtown Sculpture Exhibit.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Brad Ryan<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>The \u201cLittle Cowboy\u201d is a bronze by Lawrence Starck, of Loveland, Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll are unique and beautiful in their own right,\u201d Rodgers said.<\/p>\n<p>The city purchases the art at a reduced price as part of the agreement made with the artists for showcasing their work in historic downtown Farmington.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the city spent $77,000 on sculptures from the exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year we went a little big, but there were components to that,\u201d Duckett said, adding that the thinks this year\u2019s price for four sculptures was \u201ca reasonable amount.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city will purchase the Little Cowboy for $13,500; Walking for $3,975, Maple Seed for $5,250 and Warrior Protector for $3,750.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust shy of $27,000 for the four of them,\u201d said Warren Unsicker, economic development director for the city.<\/p>\n<p>Duckett encouraged Rodgers to make a motion to purchase all four, and she did.
