(Nick Gonzales\/Durango Herald)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Nick Gonzales<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Bell Beef couldn\u2019t be more simple \u2013 it\u2019s beef, raised and sold by the Bell family of Cortez.<\/p>\n<p>According to Bell Beef\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/bellbeef.com\/\" id=\"link-fefa494d094189ad4819f9108722dbcd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a> and promotional materials, Scott Bell worked in construction for almost 50 years before retiring in 2015. At that time, daughter-in-law Teryn Bell said, he bought 300 head of cattle to raise on his own cattle ranch.<\/p>\n<p>When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Teryn and her husband, Kasey Bell, jumped into the game to start selling the ranch\u2019s beef directly to consumers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything\u2019s locally raised obviously, grass-fed, grass-finished, hormone- and antibiotic-free, all that stuff,\u201d Teryn Bell said. \u201cOrganic without the organic sticker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is Bell Beef\u2019s first year at the Durango Farmers Market, Teryn Bell said. When <em id=\"emphasis-2f6fe3dabab6685b204d557ec4bf9084\">The Durango Herald<\/em> spoke to her at the first market of the season, she said she was just selling ground beef, while finding out what customers would ask for and what\u2019s in high demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGround beef is always in high demand, so that\u2019s what we start with,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>At the Cortez Farmers Market, Bell Beef brings a freezer trailer loaded with a variety of cuts and roasts.<\/p>\n<p>Even more can be found at Bell Beef\u2019s three-year-old country store, located at 26759 County Road M, just north of Cortez.
