Cortez school board members declared a critical teacher shortage, which is affecting schools in the district, including Montezuma-Cortez High School.<\/span>Sam Green\/The Journal<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n

Montezuma-Cortez High School is set to debut a slate of opportunities for students starting in 2025. The school is introducing expanded learning pathways, a deepened college partnership, enhanced teacher support and updated graduation requirements to prepare students for future success.<\/p>\n

New programs include the launch of a media arts\/computer science program, construction trades program and business pathway, broadening its career-focused options. An esports league will debut this year alongside the return of Knowledge Bowl. The school will also expand foreign language opportunities while continuing Spanish and French on campus.<\/p>\n

A strengthened College Ready Dual Enrollment program with Pueblo Community College will offer credentialed teachers for on-campus dual enrollment, expanded online PCC courses, more in-person options at the Mancos campus, flexible scheduling and added stipends for credentialed staff. This initiative aims to ease students\u2019 transition to higher education.<\/p>\n

Teacher support will improve with common planning time for core educators to collaborate, align instruction and support student growth. The school will also introduce a highly rated, standards-aligned curriculum in core content areas.<\/p>\n

Graduation requirements will rise starting with the Class of 2029, increasing from 22 to 25 credits. With a seven-period day, students can earn up to 28 credits, setting a higher bar for academic achievement.<\/p>\n
