(Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>After 13 months of construction, the 8,000-square-foot Marshal\u2019s Office in Mancos is complete and officially operational on Main Street.<\/p>\n<p>The community was invited to check out the new space from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. June 21, which coincided with the annual BurroFest.<\/p>\n<p>It was a good \u201cMancos turnout,\u201d said Town Marshal Justen Goodall.<\/p>\n<p>Goodall added that his favorite part of the space was \u201chaving a window\u201d in his office, since the last building had limited natural light. Brad Ray emphasized how he\u2019s glad \u201cit was built with a part of the Mancos community involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marshal\u2019s Office employees made an effort to incorporate town history by upcycling materials from the old Millwood Junction Restaurant, courtesy of what was the LivWell dispensary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe foyer is framed out with Mancos Millwood barnwood, and the table was a Mancos Millwood door,\u201d said Ray.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s more, the lobby is decorated with a painting made by preschoolers in town and other photos that a local donated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re keeping Mancos history involved,\u201d said Ray.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, \u201cthe interior space allows for future growth of the Town and staff,\u201d said Mancos Town Administrator Heather Alvarez.<\/p>\n<p>Goodall said 5,000 square feet is used for office space, and the other 3,000 square feet is garage space. For now, the space upstairs is a training space.<\/p>\n<p>In the future, Alvarez said the upstairs space will \u201cbe used to collaborate with other agencies for training and emergency planning purposes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s 72 solar panels on the roof,\u201d Goodall added.<\/p>\n<p>That solar energy will power 63% of what the building needs to run.<\/p>\n<p>An $875,000 grant from the Department of Local Affairs made the new office space possible, and \u201cthe Board of Trustees and Marshal\u2019s staff were invaluable in making this happen for the town,\u201d said Alvarez.<\/p>\n<p>Though the construction phase is complete, the Marshal\u2019s Office plans to work with the Mancos Creative District to see about murals and public art installations on the building.<\/p>\n<p>Landscaping, too, will be part of the \u201cvisual improvements to soften the building\u201d \u2013 so far as they find funding to do it, said Alvarez.<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=9a8d5dbb-8610-5915-9aad-ab8bbdf15e8f&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" alt=\"Workers from Ground Breaking LLC, who built the new Marshal\u2019s Office in Mancos, pose with town employees and Marshal\u2019s Office personnel.
