Ezekiel Whiskers, 25, was arrested Sept. 19 after being identified as the shooter in a weapons incident near Good Sam\u2019s Food Pantry in Cortez.<\/p>\n

Witnesses attending a pet food giveaway told The Journal they heard two gunshots and watched as one man chased another down an alleyway. Both men were detained at Montezuma Park.<\/p>\n

According to Cortez Police Department,<\/a> witnesses and video footage identified Whiskers as the shooter. No casualties or injuries occurred.<\/p>\n

Whiskers faces six charges, including menacing, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, prohibited use of a weapon, and violation of a protection order.<\/p>\n

Whiskers, who police said appeared intoxicated, also faces a charge of possessing a weapon while under the influence.<\/p>\n

Whiskers was one of two men detained after the incident. The second was released after officers determined he was not involved.<\/p>\n

Whiskers remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. His next court appearance in Montezuma County District Court is Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m.<\/p>\n
