{"id":16207,"date":"2025-10-09T21:58:24","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T21:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/police-two-women-shot-earlier-this-week-have-died-suspect-remains-on-life-support\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T03:55:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T03:55:13","slug":"police-two-women-shot-earlier-this-week-have-died-suspect-remains-on-life-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/police-two-women-shot-earlier-this-week-have-died-suspect-remains-on-life-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Police: Two women shot earlier this week have died; suspect remains on life-support"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image naviga-align-left alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=f228a82c-ae46-564b-a0a7-178ac07f5420&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"473\" height=\"513\" alt=\"Shelby Campbell (Courtesy of Nancy Juliana)\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Shelby Campbell (Courtesy of Nancy Juliana)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A shooting Tuesday night at the Apache Mobile Home Park in west Durango left two women dead and the suspected shooter on life-support, police said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The victims were identified as Shelby Campbell, 32, and Emma Sims, 32.<\/p>\n<p>They were shot by Campbell\u2019s estranged husband, Bradley Campbell, also 32, who then shot himself, according the Durango Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. in unit No. 2 at the mobile home park at 2400 Arroyo Drive.<\/p>\n<p>Park resident Natalie Going said Bradley Campbell entered the unit where Shelby Campbell and Emma Sims were preparing to take their dogs for a walk. He opened fire and then shot himself, according to police.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(Officers) arrived on scene within three minutes and located an open door to the mobile home,\u201d the DPD said in a news release. \u201cUpon entry, officers discovered three individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately administered first aid until Durango Fire Protection District personnel arrived and transported all three subjects to Mercy Hospital for further treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=278c5373-d1e0-51fb-ac15-76612d5db934&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1500\" alt=\"A shooting that left three people injured occurred at Unit 2 of the Apache Mobile Home Park on 2400 Arroyo Drive. (Scout Edmondson\/Durango Herald)<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>Shelby Campbell worked at Beads and Beyond since about 2014 in downtown Durango, according to the store\u2019s owner, Nancy Juliana.<\/p>\n<p>Juliana said the store will remain closed indefinitely as she and her employees process their grief. She wrote in a statement to <em id=\"emphasis-49fd9e455115cca8d15a2db1a853e481\">The Durango Herald<\/em> that she had known Campbell for 11 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was an integral part of our community at the store,\u201d Juliana wrote. \u201cShe was an extraordinary woman filled with joy, positivity and the desire to help others. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh with her. She shared her light with everyone she met. She made people feel special because she remembered them, knew their names, their stories and genuinely cared about them as individuals. Her loss is devastating and will affect more people than I can say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emily Jenkins, a co-owner at Beads and Beyond, said anyone who had the privilege of getting to know Shelby Campbell is \u201cbetter and brighter for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe carried a light so radiant that anyone she met felt her immense kindness and love and knew they were seen and appreciated,\u201d Jenkins wrote in a statement to the<em id=\"emphasis-42345e17c746fbef34adf4c8fe2dc573\"> Herald<\/em>. \u201cHer loss is devastating and we will be forever affected by this unimaginable tragedy. May she Rest in Peace knowing we will all carry a piece of her in our hearts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to learn more about Emma Sims were not immediately successful this week.<\/p>\n<p>It is the second shooting within a week that appears to be related to domestic violence, according to Durango Police Chief Brice Current.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a profoundly tragic time for our community,\u201d Current said in a news release. \u201c(It is a) heartbreaking reminder of how critical early intervention can be.
