MANCOS \u2013 The adage is that it takes a few weeks for the offense to catch up with the defense. In the case of Mancos and Dove Creek, that saying has proven to be true. Following early-season defensive battles, the offenses have taken full flight.<\/p>\n

Another pair of shootouts highlighted the weekend\u2019s action, as Mancos leaned on a fourth-quarter outburst to down Vail Christian 60-38, while Dove Creek fell in a high-scoring affair in Norwood, 60-30.<\/p>\n

The final deficit belied just how hard the visitors made Mancos work for their fifth win of the season. Two of junior quarterback Michael Resner\u2019s five rushing touchdowns came in a 30-point final stanza as Mancos broke open a tight 32-30 contest to secure the win.<\/p>\n

Resner\u2019s runs of 3 and 28 yards capped drives for the Jays, while senior Jonah Ritter added two rushing scores of his own to seal the game after Vail Christian had led at halftime.<\/p>\n

Mancos senior Miguel Derizotis scored late in the second quarter on a 1-yard run to give Mancos its first lead of the game at 20-16, but the Saints responded right before the half to retake a 24-20 advantage.<\/p>\n

The teams exchanged scores in the third quarter, but two touchdowns in a span of four minutes gave Mancos a 44-30 lead. The Mancos defense came up with three takeaways, including key stops down the stretch to turn away the Saints\u2019 desperation efforts.<\/p>\n

Mancos (5-1, 2-0 Mountain) looks ahead to a matchup against Sanford (5-1, 2-0 Mountain) on Friday, Oct. 17, at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on local radio station KRTZ 98.7 FM and krtzradio.com.<\/p>\n

Norwood 60, Dove Creek 30 (Friday)<\/div>\n

Four different Bulldogs scored touchdowns in their road defeat to the Mavericks, with senior Nicholas Aragon opening the ledger before juniors Teagan Larimore, Cael Beanland, and freshman Kycen Gritz each crossed the goal line.<\/p>\n

However, by the time the D.C. offense found its rhythm, the host Mavericks had already piled up four first-quarter touchdowns and a safety to build a 30-8 advantage, forcing the visitors to play catch-up all night.<\/p>\n

Dove Creek (2-4, 0-2 Mountain) will visit Dolores (4-1, 1-1 Mountain) on Friday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on NewsTalk 740 AM, 92.3 FM KVFC, and kvfcradio.com.<\/p>\n
