(Stoner Mesa Fire Information Facebook page)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Rifle hunting seasons will resume this month on public lands previously closed by the Stoner Mesa Fire east of Rico in the San Juan National Forest.<\/p>\n<p>Access to Taylor Mesa reopened Oct. 8, while Stoner Mesa roads and trail systems reopened Oct. 10, according to the U.S. Forest Service.<\/p>\n<p>The reopening applies to Game Management Unit 71, an area within Montezuma and Dolores counties<a href=\"https:\/\/huntersdomain.com\/hunting-info\/colorado-units-hunting-information\/co-unit-71-hunting-info\/\" id=\"link-2335eca361fee5fab3f34cf72e738e2e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> with elk and deer<\/a> seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Archery, muzzleloader and rifle bear seasons have ended, but first through fourth rifle seasons begin Wednesday and run through Nov. 23, <a href=\"https:\/\/cpw.state.co.us\/news\/09032025\/hunting-seasons-start-colorado-how-hunters-and-outdoor-recreationists-can-prepare-and\" id=\"link-0db189e6699ea5aef0cfaf70aabbfe7f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe really appreciate the hunting community that respected these critical closures and allowed fire crews to safely work in the area,\u201d CPW District Wildlife Manager Matt Sturdevant said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>The lightning-caused Stoner Mesa Fire was first reported on July 28 before reaching 10,249 acres in late August. The fire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-journal.com\/articles\/with-a-fire-just-over-the-mountains-officials-hold-meeting-in-rico\/\" id=\"link-37688f6f81c6a212cf6b556329d001d2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threatened the town of Rico<\/a> before the work of hundreds of firefighters and monsoonal rains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-journal.com\/articles\/crews-wind-down-operations-on-stoner-mesa-fire\/\" id=\"link-f5b06376b4eefab73b693190072ff795\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suppressed<\/a> it.<\/p>\n<p>As of Sept. 30, the fire was 95% contained,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=122127365822967805&amp;set=a.122101420472967805\" id=\"link-80b3128273a14d811906db50faf07b72\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> according to <\/a>the Stoner Mesa Fire Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Land repair work continues.
