Unofficial voting results show Kira Taylor and Craig McClure continuing to lead for two Mancos RE-6 school board seats, according to updated number on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The newly elected members will be joining current members Tim Hunter, Rachel McWhirter and Craig Benally.<\/p>\n

Taylor is still leading with 28.95% of votes, while McClure has received 27.84%.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI am grateful for the trust that Mancos voters have placed in me, and I will work hard to\u00a0serve this community with integrity, transparency and a collaborative spirit,\u201d Taylor told The Journal. \u201cI\u2019m really looking forward\u00a0to all we can accomplish\u00a0together\u00a0over the next four years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor is a former fifth grade teacher from Manaugh Elementary School and is a local business owner. She has a son in the Mancos Early Learning Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am honored and proud the voters of Mancos will allow me to serve as a member of the Board of Education,\u201d McClure said.\u00a0\u201cMancos is a special place and I look forward to representing the students, staff, parents and community as we work to ensure our schools are the best possible environment for successful learning and growth.\u00a0I encourage everyone to engage in the process,\u00a0be heard and hold the board and leadership accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n

McClure is a father of two children in the district and taught the emergency medical responder class as an adjunct instructor for Pueblo Community College in the pathway program for two years.<\/p>\n

He also served as a volleyball coach and was a member of both the district SRO and safety committees.<\/p>\n

Four candidates were vying for the two open seats, with board President Emily Hutcheson-Brown and board member Victor Figueroa rerunning for their seats. Hutcheson-Brown received 20.18% of the vote and Figueroa 23.02%.<\/p>\n

Unofficial results are also showing voters in favor of the Mancos School District Ballot Measure mill levy property tax override by 61.16%<\/p>\n

If passed, that measure would also established an independent citizen review committee to properly track the usage of the property tax<\/p>\n
