Former Women\u2019s Resource Center Executive Director and longtime Durango resident Tammy Tyner was found dead early Wednesday, according to the La Plata County Coroner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Office was notified about 6:40 a.m., said sheriff\u2019s spokesman Chris Burke. Tyner\u2019s body was found at the Vallecito Creek Trailhead in the 2700 block of County Road 500, he said.<\/p>\n

No foul play is suspected. No further details, including cause of death, were made public Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are all heartbroken and we offer our deepest condolences to Tammy\u2019s family,\u201d the Women\u2019s Resource Center board of directors told The Durango<\/em> Herald<\/em> on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Tyner\u2019s departure as executive director was announced last week in an email to donors and sponsors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are writing to inform you that Tammy Tyner is no longer employed with the WRC as the Executive Director effective of 11\/5\/2025,\u201d the email said. It was sent the same day and signed by Board President Ashley Truitt.<\/p>\n

Tyner worked with the center for nine years.<\/p>\n

In interviews earlier this week, the board and Tyner declined to provide a reason for her departure.<\/p>\n

Tyner was a longtime Durango resident, with both sides of her family having local roots stretching back five generations, according to Tyner\u2019s WRC biography.<\/p>\n

She attended Durango High School and the Colorado School of Mines, and was a former merchant marine, the biography said. She was also a certified equine specialist, and was formerly a survey technician at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.<\/p>\n

Tyner owned wildfire mitigation company Wildfire Solutions, LLC, and equine assisted therapy business T-S Ranch.<\/p>\n

Community service was a \u201cresponsibility and privilege that (fed) her soul,\u201d her biography said.<\/p>\n

Tyner\u2019s family was not immediately available for comment Thursday.<\/p>\n
