(Courtesy of Bill Stanley)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Volunteers will set up the start line again for Dolores\u2019 annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning \u2013 a community event that doubles as a food drive for the Dolores Family Project.<\/p>\n<p>The free event features a 1-mile fun run down Central Avenue and a 5K along the Dolores River Trail. Instead of a registration fee, participants should bring nonperishable food items \u2013 cans or cases of any size.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom a can to a case \u2013 whatever you can bring is appreciated,\u201d Bill Stanley, race-day organizer, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCostumes are optional, but we\u2019ve had so much fun with that over the years seeing hilarious getups and people running down the street,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s run is called the \u201csecond 10th annual\u201d because organizers weren\u2019t sure about last year\u2019s milestone. The race begins at 9 a.m. Thursday in front of Dolores High School. Runners should arrive from 8 to 8:45 a.m. to sign a waiver and pick up a free T-shirt while supplies last. The route is open to all ages and strollers, although dogs are discouraged for safety.<\/p>\n<p>The 1-mile course follows Central Avenue and loops around a nearby block before returning to the start line. The 5K route heads down Central, joins the river trail along the Dolores River and loops back via Riverside Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just about positive experiences for the community coming together,\u201d Stanley said. \u201cWhen we\u2019re there, there\u2019s no political parties \u2013 it\u2019s just all of us. And of course, it\u2019s about giving back with the food drive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stanley said organizers are still seeking race-day help. Volunteers may contact him through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DoloresTurkeyTrot\/\" id=\"link-437a90af3f449612707879a742bb3d0e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">event\u2019s Facebook page<\/a> or show up at 7:30 a.m. Thursday for a quick safety briefing. The event features a new PA system and music at the start line.<\/p>\n<p>Food donations collected at the run will be distributed by the Dolores Family Project Monday, Dec. 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave.<\/p>\n<p>Dolores Family Project, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DoloresFamilyFoodandFitness\/\" id=\"link-250eddc90b5f284b682369bee9208e36\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local food bank<\/a>, is relocating after losing its space at Dolores Southern Baptist Church in January.
