Arrive early and stay late.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the word for the annual Durango Choral Society Family Christmas Concert on Sunday. By early, organizers mean around noon to peruse the unusual, one-of-a-kind holiday bazaar of gifts and gift baskets. About 40 minutes before start time, pianist Adam Swanson will welcome music lovers into the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. Santa will arrive later and, most importantly, be available for photos of children of all ages after the concert.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow that we finished our collaboration with the San Juan Symphony, we have resumed holiday concert preparations,\u201d said Rhonda Muckerman. \u201cOur annual family concert will feature all of our choirs, young to old.\u201d<\/p>\n

Artistic director and conductor, Muckerman heads Durango\u2019s eminent vocal music organization \u2013 the Durango Choral Society. She also conducts the Durango Women\u2019s choir, and Amy Barret leads the Children\u2019s Chorale and the Durango Youth Chorus. All four groups will perform. Expect to hear everything from international holiday songs as well as Mozart\u2019s \u201cAlleluia Canon\u201d and favorite carols.<\/p>\n

After the concert, Muckerman hopes music lovers will save time for the \u201cgala\u201d part of the afternoon, the now fundraising event in the lobby of the hall. Society members, with the help of local businesses, create unusual gift baskets and other offerings. All proceeds go to Choral Society programs.<\/p>\n
