The Mancos School District\u2019s annual K-12 Student Art Show will hold a second public showing Thursday from 4 to 5:45 p.m. The district\u2019s art teacher called it \u201ca magical opportunity for the community to celebrate the outstanding artistic achievements of students.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first showing was Dec. 4.<\/p>\n

The free event will showcase artwork by students from kindergarten through 12th grade. The winners of this year\u2019s art contest will also be recognized. Mancos art teacher Alys Hansen said the contest required participants to create original two-dimensional pieces at home based on the prompt \u201ccreature creation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to share our students\u2019 work with the community; I am impressed by these kids,\u201d Hansen said.<\/p>\n

Elementary, middle and high school art students had different points of focus, all of which will be on display. Elementary students worked on foundational skills and elements of art, including color, line and shape. Middle and high school students created more advanced pieces exploring design principles and arrangement.<\/p>\n

\u201cMiddle and high school students build on that foundation with more advanced projects that demonstrate their understanding of the principles of design, how artists thoughtfully arrange the parts of an artwork,\u201d Hansen said.<\/p>\n

High school students\u2019 artwork includes paintings in oil, gouache and acrylic, with special attention to composition and technique.<\/p>\n
