Starting in January 2026, Farmington drivers will receive advance alerts before fire engines arrive. The new system aims to reduce collision risks by up to 90%.<\/p>\n

Officials announced Dec. 29 that the department will use HAAS Alert\u2019s Safety Cloud, which sends real-time alerts to drivers when emergency vehicles approach or work at a scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis life-saving system provides drivers with critical advance warning, a proven measure shown to reduce collision risks by up to 90%,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSafety Cloud reaches millions of drivers through leading navigation apps and vehicle brands including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM and Volkswagen,\u201d according to haasalert.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

New Mexico\u2019s Move Over Law<\/div>\n

New Mexico\u2019s Move Over Law<\/a>, Statute 66-7-332 (2024), requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching certain emergency vehicles that are stopped on the side of the road. The law is designed to protect law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians, firefighters, tow truck drivers, and other first responders working on the side of the road.<\/p>\n

Flashing lights and sirens do not always provide enough notice, especially at high speeds or in poor visibility. Safety Cloud helps bridge that gap by delivering alerts directly to drivers through multiple channels, including Waze and Apple Maps.<\/p>\n

Dashboard alerts appear in 2018 and newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM models, and in 2024 and newer Volkswagens.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis technology bridges the gap between what the law requires and what actually happens on the road,\u201d said Deputy Chief Tom Miller. \u201cWhen our lights activate, Safety Cloud gives drivers critical extra time to anticipate our presence and respond safely, protecting both our personnel and the public we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The system requires no action from drivers beyond using their existing navigation apps.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce implemented, the Farmington Fire Department will join more than 4,000 agencies nationwide already using Safety Cloud, as HAAS Alert continues expanding to additional vehicle platforms,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
