Since the building measures slightly over Dolores’s height restriction of 35 feet, the Dolores Town Council will vote on whether to approve the building’s height.

Prinster also discussed the project budget and flood mitigation efforts.

Cheri Walker then presented ICAP as a plan that allows students to gain more ownership of their education. The district is working to implement the program.

According to Walker, districts that use ICAP systems see higher attendance rates and GPAs and make students more college- and career-ready by graduation. With ICAP, students can explore potential career and postsecondary options while receiving help to reach their goals through specific course selection and other support.

In discussion items, the board talked about the budget, a flood mitigation grant and a possible track and field as part of the building project’s master plan phase 1B.

The potential track and field was a notable topic, with the board discussing the budget and potential prices. An eight-lane track with a turf field could cost about $1.8 million. The board agreed they needed to decide how to move to the next phase of discussion for the track and field and find more examples of potential costs.

In action items, the board approved a Lego Robotics donation of $475 and ended with an executive session to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation.

The next Dolores school board meeting is Monday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m.

Dolores school board received an update on the district’s building project and heard about the implementation of ICAP during their meeting Monday night.
