Saturday’s victory also made him the No. 2 all-time winner with 99 combined wins in Motocross and Supercross, trailing Ricky Carmichael’s 150.

He secured the win after battling Ken Roczen and fending off Hunter Lawrence’s last-lap pass attempt.

Riding his new KTM, Tomac clinched the win and turns his focus to round 3 in Anaheim on Jan. 24.

“It was close racing all main event, but of course, it was a great night, and to get two race wins in a row is massive,” Tomac said in a KTM news release. “I feel very happy with what I am working with right now. As far as winning two in a row to open the season, you dream of it, but making it happen is a whole different deal. So, it’s been a great start for us – I feel really at one with the KTM and it’s showing.”

In qualifying Saturday, Tomac’s teammate Jorge Prado finished second to Chase Sexton. In Heat 2, Roczen was first, Tomac second and Aaron Plessinger third.

At the main event start, Sexton jumped early and got stuck at the gate. Lawrence grabbed the holeshot, with Roczen second and Tomac third.

Roczen challenged Lawrence early but didn’t pass until later. Tomac followed and overtook Lawrence on a jump.

With about 12 minutes left, Tomac passed Roczen for the lead, but Roczen regained it. Tomac retook the lead with six minutes remaining and held on.

On the final lap, Lawrence surged to second and challenged Tomac, who held on to win. Lawrence finished second, Roczen third.

“A guy we thought was going to retire. Not once, but multiple times,” commentators said of Tomac after his win.

After two rounds, Tomac leads with 50 points. Roczen has 42, Lawrence 40.

“I (went) over the tunnel on the last lap and heard Hunter revving his bike and was shocked he was right there. I feel fortunate I held onto the lead there. I guess I need better self-awareness next time. That was close,” Tomac said following the race.

The next Supercross race is Jan. 24 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.

2026 Supercross 450SX Overall Point Standings 1.
