Tomac placed 12th in the main event. (Courtesy Red Bull KTM)

A crash in the opening corner of Saturday’s Supercross 450SX main event in Glendale, Arizona, sent Cortez’s Eli Tomac to the dirt and, by night’s end, out of the points lead he carried into Round 5.

Tomac was caught in traffic as the pack funneled through the first turn, and a rider went down directly in front of him, leaving him no room to escape the crash. He remounted quickly and climbed from 22nd to finish 12th.

Tomac said he was pinched off the start and had no chance to avoid the fallen rider. He added that it took time to loosen up again after the impact, but he salvaged what he could by working back to 12th. “The good thing is, we’re not too far down – we’re fine – so we’ll just have to do some digging now,” he said.

Meanwhile, Vince Friese grabbed the holeshot with Hunter Lawrence and Ken Roczen close behind. Lawrence soon made the pass for the lead as Roczen held second and Cooper Webb moved into third.

Roczen later overtook Lawrence and pulled away, stretching the gap to more than four seconds in the final laps. He secured his first win of the 2026 season, with Lawrence second and Webb third, nearly 15 seconds behind Lawrence. It was Lawrence’s fourth runner‑up finish of the year.

The results reshuffled the standings: Lawrence moved into first with 106 points, Roczen climbed to second with 101 and Tomac slipped to third with 98.

Tomac had opened the night strong by winning his 450 Heat 1 after snagging the holeshot and pulling away early. Lawrence and Christian Craig battled for second before Lawrence made the pass, finishing ahead of Webb.

In Heat 2, Friese again claimed the holeshot, but Tomac’s teammate Jorge Prado passed him after the first turn. Joey Savatgy followed into second, and Jason Anderson held off Roczen for third. Prado took the heat win with Savatgy second.

Round 6 of the 2026 Supercross season is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, at Lumen Stadium in Seattle.

Supercross 450SX Overall Standings

NameTeamPoints1.
