(Sarah Syverson/Courtesy photo)

The popular Raven Narratives is bringing back its live storytelling series for two nights in Cortez and Durango at the end of February. This round centers on the theme of “luck.”

The story slam format invites audience members to share spontaneous and true personal stories. Participants sign up on the spot to tell their stories, each limited to a few minutes, in the Raven Narratives’ signature unscripted style.

Events are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Sunflower Theatre in Cortez, and Friday, Feb. 28, at the Durango Arts Center. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with stories beginning at 7 p.m.

Sunflower Theatre Director Sarah Syverson said the “luck” theme is deliberately broad. Those who share their stories can speak about good or bad fortune, survival against the odds, fate, chance encounters, plot twists, or unexpected changes in life’s direction. Stories may be joyful, complex, bittersweet, humorous or tender, as long as they are true and drawn from personal experience.

Those who want to tell a story but prefer not to speak on stage can submit a typed, one‑page story (12‑point type) on luck to ravennarratives@gmail.com. Selected pieces may be read aloud by a host or volunteer.

“At its heart, Raven Narratives is about community – about listening deeply, recognizing shared humanity and finding connection through story,” Syverson said. “Whether someone comes to tell a story, submit writing, offer a poem, or simply sit in the audience, the experience affirms that storytelling is something we do together.”

Tickets for both evenings are $15 and available online, with advance purchase recommended.
