At their Monday night meeting, the Mancos RE-6 school board was given an update on the Mill Levy Oversight Committee, heard about the launch of a new \u201ccrew\u201d structure for the district, and was reminded of a principal\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n

In their student report, Rhett Brown and Greta Thompson updated the board on a recent student survey. Brown said they are creating a new form that will let students rank the top ideas so they can determine which issues matter most to the student body. They hope to deliver results before spring break.<\/p>\n

The District Accountability Committee presented an update on student wellness and behavior support. The committee outlined two priority targets for the 2025\u201326 school year: one for all stakeholders and one specifically for leadership.<\/p>\n

The first target was building a healthy community \u201cwhere students, staff and families feel agency and belonging,\u201d along with supporting engaging learning environments \u201crich with challenging, student-led learning experiences every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The DAC said a school climate survey will be sent to students, staff and families in March. A family engagement night is scheduled for March 11 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. It will include workshops, children\u2019s activities, a free family dinner and child care. Topics will include emotional regulation, perfectionism and anxiety, digital safety, and talking with kids about difficult issues.<\/p>\n

In her superintendent report, Audrey Hazleton discussed the district\u2019s new \u201ccrew\u201d structure launching in August. Under the model, every student and teacher is assigned to a crew with dedicated time built into the school day for community building, reflection and goal-setting.<\/p>\n

Hazleton also highlighted new staff training provided through Resilient Colorado. New employees will complete a half-day virtual program on \u201ccompassion fatigue,\u201d including how to identify it, develop healthy habits and build strategies to prevent burnout.<\/p>\n

The Mill Levy Oversight Committee continues to prepare drafts for the board\u2019s March 2 work session. Two drafts will be released this week for staff and community review, and feedback is encouraged. The committee\u2019s next meeting is Feb. 25 to prepare recommendations for a new salary and wage schedule.<\/p>\n

Hazleton also announced the launch of a new hiring and recruiting platform and noted that principal James Hughes recently resigned. The district is seeking a new principal and plans to involve students, parents, staff and community members in the process.<\/p>\n
