(Photo courtesy of Red Bull KTM)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n<p>Cortez\u2019s Eli Tomac won his eighth Daytona Supercross 450SX race on Saturday, marking another \u201cmagical\u201d race in Florida. Tomac\u2019s win puts him only one point behind current overall points leader Hunter Lawrence.<\/p>\n<p>Tomac has 170 points.<\/p>\n<p>In the main event at Daytona International Speedway, Lawrence claimed the hole shot while Tomac got \u201cpinched off,\u201d going around the first corner, where he rode in fifth place behind Malcolm Stewart. Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb raced behind Lawrence in second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Roczen quickly passed Lawrence, taking first place while Tomac moved to fourth. After securing fourth place, Tomac passed Webb and Lawrence, putting his sights on Roczen and quickly narrowing his lead.<\/p>\n<p>Tomac slingshot out of a corner, moving past Roczen to take the lead to the excited roar of the crowd. Lawrence passed Roczen for second.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was gnarly what ET just did,\u201d commentators said. \u201cThere is just something magical about Eli Tomac and Daytona International Speedway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tomac led for the remainder of the race, winning in Daytona for the eighth time. Lawrence placed second and Roczen third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomehow I have won eight Daytona Supercrosses,\u201d Tomac said in a KTM news release following the race. \u201cI just go out there and roost the berms like I\u2019m at my home track \u2013 I love this dirt and the way it develops. Of course, I had to work for it there tonight, I went through all my main competition and just had a great time on my motorcycle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the trophy ceremony, Tomac\u2019s trophy broke, hitting him in the mouth and breaking one of his teeth. He established a commanding lead early on, with commentators saying, \u201cThis guy is just absolutely lighting it up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tomac led for the entire heat to win by nearly six seconds. Webb placed second, and Roczen came from behind for third.<\/p>\n<p>In the second heat, Lawrence led from the start for the hole shot, with Stewart and Joey Savatgy close behind. Stewart attempted to take the lead in an \u201cepic battle.\u201d Stewart and Lawrence jumped and rode over the whoops side by side on the first lap.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence held on to the lead, and Savatgy ended up passing Stewart for second.
