\u201cWe are hoping to raise $5,000 to be put towards our general operating expenses,\u201d said shelter director Laurie Knutson.<\/p>\n
Volunteers make the soups, and the event also includes soup bowls available for sale that were handmade by SWOS students. The bowls are $10 each.<\/p>\n
\u201cClaudia Sanderson-O\u2019Hara, a local artist and SWOS art teacher, and Janet Lever-Wood, a local potter, were instrumental in making this bowl-making project happen,\u201d Knutson said. \u201cRita Stramel of SWOS was also very helpful in setting up this project.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fundraiser also features auction items. Four of Raven House\u2019s artists \u2013 Collette Webster, Marilyn Kroeker, and Mary and Rob Wilson \u2013 have donated clay and copper bowls for the auction, and Painted Turtle \u2013 owned by Jaime Becktel and Sarah Allen \u2013 have also donated handmade clay bowls.<\/p>\n
The 7th Annual Soups of the World fundraiser starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. The event is held at First United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10, but children under 12 are free.<\/p>\n
