Upton loses in state semifinals<\/p>\n

Wrestling in the 2A state semifinals, Bears\u2019 182-pound senior Ethen Upton was narrowly beaten, 4-2, by Swink High School\u2019s Brody Wisemon.<\/p>\n

After an even first period in which neither wrestler was able to gain an advantage, Wisemon finally got on the board in the second, scoring a takedown to move ahead 2-0.<\/p>\n

Wismon then extended his lead to 4-0 before two late points by Upton narrowed the gap late in the third period.<\/p>\n

Upton was unable to secure a takedown however, Swink secured a spot in the finals.<\/p>\n

Upton will wrestle in the consolation bracket on Feb. 23.<\/p>\n

Valdez advances after morning loss<\/p>\n

Wrestling with the passion and energy, Bears\u2019 senior Deano Valdez defeated Norwood High School\u2019s Trenton Armintrout 11-3 to advance in the consolation bracket.<\/p>\n

After pulling ahead 2-0 to end the first period, Valdez began to take control in the second, pulling ahead 6-1 before blowing things open in the third period.<\/p>\n

With the victory, Valdez kept his hopes of a third place finish alive. Valdez will next match up against Center High School\u2019s Jeremiah Moreno (24-2).<\/p>\n

Martinez wins to advance in consolation bracket<\/p>\n

Unwilling to concede defeat, Bears\u2019 sophomore Richard Martinez advanced to the third round of the consolation bracket, defeating Byers High School\u2019s Dalton Eldringhoff 5-4.<\/p>\n

Martinez will next face off against Rocky Ford\u2019s Jeremy Fraser (30-7) on Feb. 22.<\/p>\n

Medina eliminated after second loss<\/p>\n

Competing in the second round of the consolation bracket, Bears\u2019 freshman Tristan Medina was pinned by Lyons High School\u2019s William Hickman.<\/p>\n
