During the past year, the Montezuma-Cortez High School Theatre Department has staged Peter Pan, Clue, and a One Act Festival.<\/p>\n
Much to the delight of drama fans, there is one more spectacular production in store.<\/p>\n
Kicking off tonight at 7 p.m., Montezuma-Cortez High School students will treat audience members to a rousing rendition of The Secret Garden.<\/p>\n
A classic plot<\/p>\n
Sure to thrill audiences, the timeless classic tells the story of Mary Lennox (Anakay Hanold), a girl living in India, whose family and friends are killed by cholera.<\/p>\n
Forced to take shelter in Great Britain with her uncle, Archibald Craven (Joshua Horneff), Lennox is thrust into an unfamiliar of life.<\/p>\n
Sullen and depressed, Lennox eventually discovers a secret garden, makes a friend named Collin Craven (Sheldon Harris) and facilitates a family-wide healing process.<\/p>\n
A story chronicling despair, healing and rebirth, The Secret Garden promises to thrill those lucky enough to attend.<\/p>\n
Spectacular music<\/p>\n
In addition to delighting dramatically inclined individuals, The Secret Garden will undoubtedly impress musically inclined individuals.<\/p>\n
Actors and actresses will sing the vast majority of their lines while accompanied by nine student-musicians playing various instruments.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe music this year has been a lot more difficult than it has been in the past,\u201d explained base trombone player Xavier Eddy. \u201cI\u2019d say that it almost has a Celtic vibe.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the best music that we\u2019ve ever done,\u201d added Todd Underwood, who plays Neville Craven. \u201cIf we pull it off, it\u2019s going to be really awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n
Outstanding acting, unique set<\/p>\n
As is always the case with M-CHS Theatre Productions, impressive acting is sure to be a staple of the show.<\/p>\n
Providing a backdrop for actors and actresses will be a unique set that includes a large sheet that divides half of the stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a giant scrim that covers the entire back half of the stage,\u201d said Joshua Horneff. \u201cAll of the ghost stuff takes place behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Due to its classic plot, spectacular music, outstanding acting and unique set, The Secret Gardenshould not be missed.<\/p>\n
