{"id":120495,"date":"2014-05-05T22:00:44","date_gmt":"2014-05-06T04:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/cortez-plans-cleanup-week\/"},"modified":"2014-05-05T22:00:44","modified_gmt":"2014-05-06T04:00:44","slug":"cortez-plans-cleanup-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/cortez-plans-cleanup-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Cortez plans cleanup week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, residents are encouraged to meet at the northwest corner of Parque de Vida to help keep Cortez looking great, said City Manager Shane Hale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe idea is to walk our thoroughfares and pick up the litter that has accumulated over the winter months,\u201d Hale said.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will receive a T-shirt, gloves, bags and a vest and will be assigned to different areas of the city. Volunteers will be treated to a barbecue at noon.<\/p>\n<p>Hale said the cleanup effort coincides with the city\u2019s efforts to beautify major entrances into town, such as the ongoing landscape work along South Broadway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe city\u2019s money and efforts, however, are wasted if we don\u2019t display that we have a lot of community pride and can put in the work to keep Cortez looking nice,\u201d Hale said.<\/p>\n<p>A citywide \u201cClean Up Week\u201d effort is May 12-16 to encourage residents to clean out garages and yards.
