{"id":120265,"date":"2014-05-14T22:48:45","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T04:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/barn-yard-day\/"},"modified":"2014-05-14T22:48:45","modified_gmt":"2014-05-15T04:48:45","slug":"barn-yard-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/barn-yard-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Barn Yard Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:75c2b617-3da7-447b-baf7-99ff31418ad0 --><\/p>\n<p>For the better part of the day on May 13, a portion of the Dolores High School football field resembled a barnyard.<\/p>\n<p>Goats and chickens dotted the sidelines and pigs lounged in nearby pens as donkeys and horses stood nearby.<\/p>\n<p>Part of an annual event known as \u201cBarn Yard Day,\u201d the showcase sought to expose students to a variety of animals, while simultaneously providing an excuse to enjoy some spring sun.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to bring in at least one of every species that you find around,\u201d said Dolores High School agricultural teacher and FFA sponsor Jake Gordanier. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of a tradition. We\u2019ve done it every year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Those attending the event included several high school students, middle school students and elementary students. Daycare children had also attended the event in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKids like bringing their own animals from home to be able to do a show and tell with the younger kids,\u201d said Gordanier.<\/p>\n<p>A fun event to say the least, \u201cBarn Yard Day\u201d capped off a busy year for the high school\u2019s Future farmers of America and agricultural programs.
