{"id":120162,"date":"2014-05-19T18:24:35","date_gmt":"2014-05-20T00:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/black-bear-treed-on-north-street\/"},"modified":"2014-05-19T18:24:35","modified_gmt":"2014-05-20T00:24:35","slug":"black-bear-treed-on-north-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/black-bear-treed-on-north-street\/","title":{"rendered":"Black bear treed on North Street"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:53d1ef87-b610-4a3b-90c2-71d8fef1a0fd --><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video wp-block-embed-youtube naviga-video-embed\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BEvkXzMiotw\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Generally speaking, black bears do not appear near downtown Cortez.<\/p>\n<p>Early in the day on Monday, May 19, however, a large bear was spotted in a tree near the intersection of North Street and Pinon Drive across the street from Southwest Design.<\/p>\n<p>By 8 a.m., members of the Cortez Police Department, Montezuma County Sheriff\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Office, Cortez Fire Department and Colorado parks and Wildlife had arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>By 9 a.m., small groups of curious onlookers gathered, and by 10 a.m., the crowd had grown to more than 75 people.<\/p>\n<p>After assessing the situation, wildlife officials attempted to tranquilize the bear with a dart.
