Montezuma County Hospice bereavement coordinator Sunny Bossenmaier said the support group, in its third year, tries to break the stigma of suicide, and spread the word that help is available.<\/p>\n
\u201cClosure for these families after an event of this nature is a very conflicted process, and often times an overwhelming emotional challenge to get past,\u201d said Bossemaier.<\/p>\n
Bossemaier said feedback has been positive.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith support, we are happy to say that many of our families, although they at times come back for a refresher boost of support, report that the program really helped them to get through a very difficult and emotionally draining time in their life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Depending on age and income, treatment options are available at Axis Health System for people who suffer from depression, have attempted suicide or want help. Casie LaMunyon, a licensed counselor at Axis, said free evaluations also are available.<\/p>\n
LaMunyon said the biggest warning sign is a statement about considering suicide. Access to firearms is an added danger, she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe regularly see people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts,\u201d LaMunyon said. \u201cIt\u2019s a common problem in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
