{"id":119374,"date":"2014-06-25T20:54:34","date_gmt":"2014-06-26T02:54:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/joint-youth-football-camp-enjoys-success\/"},"modified":"2014-06-25T20:54:34","modified_gmt":"2014-06-26T02:54:34","slug":"joint-youth-football-camp-enjoys-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/joint-youth-football-camp-enjoys-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Joint youth football camp enjoys success"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=3bf954bd-275b-4d05-9a73-41aa77604e3d&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" srcset=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=3bf954bd-275b-4d05-9a73-41aa77604e3d&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=800 800w, https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=3bf954bd-275b-4d05-9a73-41aa77604e3d&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=1200 1200w, https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=3bf954bd-275b-4d05-9a73-41aa77604e3d&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=1800 1800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 2000px\" width=\"1963\" height=\"1657\" alt=\"Brody Gottman, Lucas Martinez and Wyatt Snyder learn to pass at the football camp.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Brody Gottman, Lucas Martinez and Wyatt Snyder learn to pass at the football camp.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Sam Green\/Dolores Star<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>If local high school football teams want to improve, developing talent at the youth level is necessary.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, coaches from Montezuma-Cortez High School and Dolores High School hosted a youth football camp at Panthers Stadium, June 20-21.<\/p>\n<p>In all, 22 players attended the two-day camp, which was open to players from kindergarten to eighth grade.<\/p>\n<p>Working with Dolores High School head coach Chris Trusler and M-CHS head coach Casey Coulter and several assistant coaches, players participated in numerous drills designed to improve speed, strength and footwork.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after completing a drill that required players to weave through cones in a figure-eight pattern, eighth-grader Forest Pejsa discussed his goals for the camp.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to improve on my footwork and agility,\u201d said Pejsa. \u201cI want my skills to bump up a notch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love football,\u201d Ray Christopher said. \u201cI like the teamwork and how you can make friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Pejsa spoke of his desire to improve his speed, 11-year-old Kyler Krob tackled dummies and then talked about why he decided to attend the camp.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love football and it\u2019s my passion,\u201d said Krob. \u201cIt\u2019s really physical and you get to take your anger out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All in all, the camp turned out to be a success for all involved as players and coaches relished the experience of competing and improving over the course of two days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c(The camp) went really well,\u201d said Trusler. \u201cWe were pleased with the turnout.
