{"id":119173,"date":"2014-07-09T22:24:25","date_gmt":"2014-07-10T04:24:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/cheers-for-sutcliffe-vineyards-syrah-2\/"},"modified":"2014-07-09T22:24:25","modified_gmt":"2014-07-10T04:24:25","slug":"cheers-for-sutcliffe-vineyards-syrah-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/cheers-for-sutcliffe-vineyards-syrah-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Cheers for Sutcliffe Vineyard&#8217;s Syrah"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sutcliffe Vineyards\u2019 Syrah has received a score of 90 out of 100 in the July issue of the Wine Enthusiast magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The variety was crafted by owner John Sutcliffe and wine maker Joe Buckel, formerly of the Flowers Vineyard and Winery in the Sonoma Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Sutcliffe Vineyard\u2019s Syrah was produced using grapes grown locally in McElmo Canyon and Canyons of the Ancients vineyards.<\/p>\n<p>Buckel says the local grapes add distinct character to the Syrah and provide a unique regional offering to oenophiles looking for a \u201cvine to glass\u201d wine experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom tiers of black cherry and ripe plums to dark chocolate and soft cinnamon finish, our syrah has all the weight and depth one should expect from this wonderful grape,\u201d Buckel said.<\/p>\n<p>In 2010, Sutcliffe Vineyards earned national recognition for scoring a 90 for a merlot variety.<\/p>\n<p>Sutcliffe Vineyards is located in southwest Colorado\u2019s McElmo canyon at the base of Sleeping Ute Mountain. Their wine varieties include Roses (needs dash over e), Chardonnays, Cabernets, Merlots and Syrahs.
