Among the many Escalante Days attractions, few produce as much excitement as the softball tournament. Held on Aug. 9-10, this year\u2019s tournament drew 19 teams from throughout the Four Corners.<\/p>\n
New to this year\u2019s tournament was a three-division format that separated men\u2019s competitive teams, men\u2019s recreational teams and women\u2019s teams. According to tournament organizer Leo Garand, the format change allowed teams to play more games.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody played a minimum of three games and everybody was happy,\u201d said Garand. \u201cPeople were happy with the competition being separated into appropriate brackets.\u201d<\/p>\n
Winning their third Men\u2019s Competitive Division tournament title of all time, D-12 bested UNC in a rematch of last year\u2019s finals. In the Women\u2019s Division, BIA defeated TT&R to take top honors.<\/p>\n
Competing in the Men\u2019s Recreational Division, the Dolores based \u201cFirehouse Boys,\u201d represented their hometown well, winning all of their games in impressive fashion.<\/p>\n
