In 2010, 2011 and 2012, the Montezuma-Cortez High School golf team finished first in the Western Slope Region. Last season, the Panthers finished third in the region.<\/p>\n

Entering the 2014 season with lofty expectations, this year\u2019s M-CHS golf team will look to re- establish itself as the West Slope\u2019s finest team. To do so, the team will relay on four seniors, one talented freshman and several other promising players.<\/p>\n

Anchoring this year\u2019s varsity roster will be senior Hayden Plewe, a first-team all-conference player last season. A powerful player with a deft short game, Plewe figures to contend for top honors in every tournament he plays. Plewe could even contend for a state title if things go his way.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Plewe) has been working hard all summer,\u201d said M-CHS head coach Micah Rudosky. \u201cI see him as being one of the best (golfers) in (the state) and in our region.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also figuring to positively impact the Panthers this year will be seniors Tristan Shelby and Ryan Aiken. Both experienced players capable of shooting scores in the mid-70s, Aiken and Shelby are hoping that their final prep season will be a memorable one.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to win a few tournaments and win our home tournament for sure,\u201d said Shelby. We want to win back our regional title.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking to shoot in the mid-70\u2019s and helpo the team this year,\u201d added Aiken.<\/p>\n

Rounding out the Panthers varsity lineup will be senior Levi Gross and freshman Cristoffer Rudosky, who figure to enjoy solid individual seasons for the benefit of the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a team, we want to get to state again,\u201d said Gross.<\/p>\n

Other members of this year\u2019s M-CHS golf team include junior Joaquin Valdez, sophomore Killian Keiser and freshman Luke Gross. All three players are looking to gain valuable experience this year.<\/p>\n

The Panthers opened their season on Aug. 11 in Grand Junction and will play on Aug. 12 in Fruita. Highlights of the team\u2019s 11-event schedule include a tournament at Conquistador Golf Course on Aug. 20 and the Western Slope Regional Championship in Durango on Sept. 16.<\/p>\n

Summing up his team\u2019s goals for the season, Micah Rudosky said that he hopes his players can improve in every event and make waves in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to go out there, get into regionals and get this team back to state,\u201d said Micah Rudosky. \u201cWe have the experience and we know what it takes. \u201cI think we\u2019ll have a good opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
