Juices from a Palisade peach, the kind that run down your chin and require a napkin, are the best marketing tools for one local couple operating a roadside produce stand.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re so sweet and succulent,\u201d said Reba Short of the baseball-size fruit.<\/p>\n

Married 11 years, Reba and her husband, Lee, operate out of the back of a Box truck on the corner of Ash and Main streets in Cortez. It\u2019s a part-time business endeavor.<\/p>\n

\u201cMeeting people is the best part of the job,\u201d said Reba Short.<\/p>\n

\u201cRepeat customers aren\u2019t bad either,\u201d added Lee Short.<\/p>\n

The Dolores couple say they have the best local prices on No. 1 Palisade peaches, which were going for 75 cents each or $25 a box. They sold two boxes within minutes of opening one morning last week.<\/p>\n

The mom-and-pop purveyors sell a variety of organic vegetables, including Olathe sweet corn. Available at $4.25 per dozen, the corn was pitched as being so tender that cooking was optional.<\/p>\n

\u201cDust them off and eat them,\u201d said Reba Short.<\/p>\n

The Shorts pick up their vegetables on Monday. For the freshest produce, stop and visit them on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Colorado grown produce sold at roadside stands is not subject to sales tax or local regulation.<\/p>\n
