{"id":118082,"date":"2014-09-03T17:43:51","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T23:43:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/two-throw-hats-in-ring-for-town-board\/"},"modified":"2014-09-03T17:43:51","modified_gmt":"2014-09-03T23:43:51","slug":"two-throw-hats-in-ring-for-town-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/two-throw-hats-in-ring-for-town-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Two throw hats in ring for town board"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:5ccd3297-7b3a-40a0-b226-5395b286d983 --><\/p>\n<p>Two Dolores residents have stepped forward recently indicating they would like to fill an open seat on the Dolores Town Board.<\/p>\n<p>James Biard and Izzy Boyce have both submitted letters to the town stating that are interested in the position left vacant when local brewery owner Mark Younquist stepped down last month.<\/p>\n<p>Biard, owner of Biard Brothers Concrete, said he felt it was time for him to step up to the plate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve lived here all my life, and I figure it\u2019s my turn to get involved,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Biard is active in the Dolores schools.<\/p>\n<p>He coaches middle school and high school football and will help coach middle school basketball this year.<\/p>\n<p>Boyce, owner of Dolores Liquors, said she hopes to fill the empty seat so she can be more involved in town happenings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just want to be part of our community. I talk to so many people here at the store and just want to be involved in the direction of the town,\u201d Boyce said.<\/p>\n<p>Boyce moved to Dolores in 1996 and has owned the liquor store for about 10 years, along with her husband, Paul.<\/p>\n<p>A long time ago, people would go to the town meetings, and I don\u2019t hear that anymore, and I don\u2019t\u2019 understand why,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Boyce said she would like to see more people move to and know about the wonderful things happening in Dolores, as well as attend meetings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think people know about town board meetings because they don\u2019t know they are happening,\u201d Boyce said.<\/p>\n<p>Boyce and her husband moved to Dolores after working over 20 years at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>The Dolores Town Board is expected to make an appointment to fill the empty seat on Monday, Sept. 8. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall, 420 Central Ave.<\/p>\n<p>Board members are also expected to hear a report from the Southwest Conservation Corps regarding trail construction and the U.S. Forest Service on a trails update.<\/p>\n<p>Lana Hancock, town clerk\/treasurer, said that those interested in the open position can still send letters of interest to the Town Hall.
