{"id":117776,"date":"2014-09-17T19:25:53","date_gmt":"2014-09-18T01:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/buddy-guy-rocks-telluride-fest\/"},"modified":"2014-09-17T19:25:53","modified_gmt":"2014-09-18T01:25:53","slug":"buddy-guy-rocks-telluride-fest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/buddy-guy-rocks-telluride-fest\/","title":{"rendered":"Buddy Guy rocks Telluride fest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:359aa3f6-62cd-4623-a733-56b66d1453d5 --><\/p>\n<p>Nearly 25,000 people attended the 21st Annual Telluride Blues and Brew Festival last weekend, and many  agreed: Rock \u2018n\u2019 Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy stole the show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have had so much feedback about Buddy Guy,\u201d said festival spokesperson Bill Kight. \u201cHe is a legend, as you know, and can really get the crowd going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The multi-Grammy Award winner\u2019s performance on Sunday, Sept. 14, was his third time on the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival stage. Guy also performed in 2003 and 2009.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe third time was a charm for sure,\u201d said Kight. \u201cIt was an incredible performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chicago bluesman\u2019s latest Telluride performance included a rendition of Muddy Waters\u2019 \u201cHoochie Coochie Man\u201d and Cream\u2019s \u201cStrange Brew.\u201d The 78-year-old Louisiana native also played his 2008 track, \u201cSkin Deep,\u201d a soothing call to end narrow-minded bigotry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been around a while, I know wrong from right, and since a long time ago things been always black and white,\u201d Guy sang. \u201cJust like you can\u2019t judge a book by the cover, we all gotta be careful how we treat one another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Headliners to play the festival included Peter Frampton on Sunday, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic on Saturday and the Violent Femmes on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Reminiscent of a James Brown performance, Charles Bradley and His Extraodinaires also hit the stage to serenade thousands during the festival\u2019s grand beer tasting at high noon on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 56 microbreweries offered their latest beer samples, including Telluride Brewing Company\u2019s Face Down Brown Ale, Sweet Water Brewing Company\u2019s 420 Extra Pale Ale and Sierra Nevada\u2019s Flipside Red IPA.<\/p>\n<p>Tasters were encouraged to send a text to vote for their favorite brew. Roaring Fork Beer Company of Carbondale, Colo., which opened its doors just last year, was the crowd\u2019s choice for Best of Fest.<\/p>\n<p>Helping to alleviate any drunken drivers, the festival also hosted a sellout crowd of 1,600 campers. George of Grand Junction, who has attended nearly all the 21 Blues and Brews festivals, said 2014 was one of the best, citing sunny days and cool nights throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe weather was just awesome,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen it snow, and I\u2019ve seen it rain. It was beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 22nd Telluride Blues &amp; Brews Festival is set for Sept. 18-20. Tickets go on sale in March.
