Playing as an offensive and defensive lineman, Wyatt Jones\u2019 name doesn\u2019t always show up on the stat sheet. That doesn\u2019t mean that the senior, who attaches a plastic frog to his helmet for luck, hasn\u2019t contributed to the Dolores High School football team.<\/p>\n

After playing offensive guard his first three years of high school, Jones switched to center this season and performed well, as evidenced by the Bears\u2019 lack of poor snaps.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve really put a lot of work into (playing center),\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s now my favorite position to play.\u201d<\/p>\n

On defense, Jones spent the majority of his at end, but also played linebacker. This year, Jones made 52 tackles and had one sack.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Jones) was a good leader, and he was somebody that we could put anywhere on the field and he would get the job done,\u201d said coach Chris Trusler.<\/p>\n

\u201cI tried to keep guys amped up when they broke down and keep guys in the right mind set,\u201d said Jones.<\/p>\n

When not playing football, Jones enjoys studying construction and mechanics. He plans to attend Colorado Northwest Community College next year and pursue a degree in structural engineering.<\/p>\n

Asked what he\u2019ll remember about high school football, Jones said he\u2019ll never forget spending time with teammates and defeating John Mall in this season\u2019s homecoming game.<\/p>\n

\u201cWinning against John Mall meant a lot,\u201d he said. \u201cI was hoping that we could win that game, and obviously, we had a pretty good blowout on them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
