{"id":116174,"date":"2014-12-02T00:32:33","date_gmt":"2014-12-02T07:32:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/burglar-gets-3-years-in-prison\/"},"modified":"2014-12-02T00:32:33","modified_gmt":"2014-12-02T07:32:33","slug":"burglar-gets-3-years-in-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/burglar-gets-3-years-in-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Burglar gets 3 years in prison"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A burglar was sentenced to the Colorado Department of Corrections by District Court Judge Todd Plewe on Monday, Nov. 24.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Olson, 27, was sentenced to three years, minus 114 days already served, for her part in a botched burglary on March 14 on County Road 33.<\/p>\n<p>Public defender Amy Smith asked for leniency, saying that Olson didn\u2019t have addiction rehab during a previous sentence. \u201cWarehousing her in prison will only increase the chance of recidivism,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Victim Kathleen Clark testified at the sentencing about the impact the robbery had on her life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to take out a loan to fix it all,\u201d Clark said. \u201cYou turned my life upside down. On video of the robbery, you\u2019re having a great time destroying my house.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Olson\u2019s partner in the crime, Gary Soza, 38, was granted a deferred judgement last month after pleading guilty to the burglary.<\/p>\n<p>District Attorney Will Furse supported Olson\u2019s longer prison sentence and said she had opportunities for help while in jail, but never took advantage of them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is sad, but it seems like when she is not in jail, she is re-offending,\u201d Furse said.<\/p>\n<p>The burglars smashed a window to enter the home.
