{"id":116000,"date":"2014-12-09T18:46:37","date_gmt":"2014-12-10T01:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/olde-fashioned-fun\/"},"modified":"2014-12-09T18:46:37","modified_gmt":"2014-12-10T01:46:37","slug":"olde-fashioned-fun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/olde-fashioned-fun\/","title":{"rendered":"Olde Fashioned fun"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:072dbc79-00a0-4c1b-9a29-23f1d81633d4 --><\/p>\n<p>The first event in Mancos\u2019 Olde Fashioned Christmas was well attended and fun.<\/p>\n<p>It was difficult not to get into the Christmas spirit Friday as the events kicked off.<\/p>\n<p>It was \u201cNight of the Cowboy\u201d Friday at the Goodnight Trail Gallery. Those that perused the gallery and artist stands dressed up in their finest Western gear.<\/p>\n<p>Don Cook, of Dolores, showed off some of his handmade spurs, something he has been perfecting for eight years.<\/p>\n<p>A reindeer gave rides to children \u2013 wait, it was a steer named Crash with reindeer horns taped on his head.<\/p>\n<p>People lined up to get a ride with Crash Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Owner Will Stone said he has been working with the steer \u2013 named Crash Boom by his 4-year-old granddaughter \u2013 since his birth.<\/p>\n<p>Inside the Columbine, a hard-working group of cookie testers tasted a variety of cookies for the Cookie Contest. Organizer Mac Neely said she had a low turnout this year in entries.<\/p>\n<p>When all the cookies were tasted, the winner turned out to be 15-year-old Zowie O\u2019Brien, who presented chocolate chip jelly cookies.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother was pleased. \u201cShe bakes a few time a week. We never have to buy cookies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neely was happy to see a budding baker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were the best cookies overall,\u201d Neely said.<\/p>\n<p>The Rudolph Run took off with a rush as children and adults took off for the 1-mile run.<\/p>\n<p>Organizer Annette Mullikin said she has been organizing the race for about 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I love to run. My kids are runners,\u201d she said. \u201cThis race promotes activity and gets kids active and people active and gets them to do something fun before the tree lighting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The money raised in the Rudolph Run will go toward the Mancos Student Council and the Giving Tree project.<\/p>\n<p>After the race, the town Christmas tree was lit to cheers from the crowd.<\/p>\n<div class=\"naviga-scoreboard\">\n<h4 class=\"scoreboard-title\">Olde Fashioned Christmas<\/h4>\n<p>Friday, Dec. 12<br>\n                6 to 8 p.m.: Community holiday dinner at the Mancos Community Center.<br>\n                7 p.m.: \u2018A Rockin\u2019 Christmas\u2019 featuring The Shawn-Michael Trio at Mancos Valley Distillery.<br>\n                7 p.m.: Mancos Valley Chorus Holiday Show \u2018I\u2019ll be Home for Christmas\u2019 at Mancos Valley United Methodist.<br>\n                8:30 p.m.: \u2018A Bluegrass Christmas\u2019 featuring Last Nickel at the Columbine.<br>\n                Saturday, Dec. 13<br>\n                1 to 4 p.m.: Santa at Artisans of Mancos<br>\n                3:30 p.m.: Mancos Valley Chorus Holiday Show \u2018I\u2019ll be Home for Christmas\u2019 at Mancos Valley United Methodist.<br>\n                4 p.m.: Breaking of Ornament Pinatas at Grand and Main Corner Park<br>\n                Sunday, Dec. 14<br>\n                5:30 p.m.: Second Sunday Holiday Supper at the Mt. Lookout Grange.
