Since the start of the 2006 season, the Dolores High School boys basketball team has not defeated Ignacio, losing 13 straight times to their San Juan Basin League opponents.<\/p>\n
The Bears latest loss came on the road on Dec. 18, when the Ignacio, bolstered by 20 points from Adison Jones, won 66-31 and improved to 4-2 on the season.<\/p>\n
\u201c(Ignacio\u2019s) five starters are as tough as you\u2019ll ever see,\u201d said Dolores head coach Larry Schwartz. \u201cWe just had no answer for the two big boys inside. They pretty much took it to us in the paint.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ignacio led 33-12 at halftime and stretched their lead to 44-12 after opening the third quarter on an 11-0 run.<\/p>\n
Among the bright spots for Dolores was junior Ben Lykins, who led Dolores in scoring and assisted on several Bears buckets.<\/p>\n
\u201cBen Lykins is having an outstanding season,\u201d said Schwartz. \u201cHe\u2019s shooting well from the outside and distributing.\u201d<\/p>\n
With their record now at 0-4 on the season, the Bears will practice over Christmas break and look to improve in the New Year. Among the team\u2019s goals is improving its scoring on the low block.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to find that guy who wants to score inside,\u201d said Schwartz. \u201cHopefully we\u2019ll have that by the end of the year. It would make a big difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
