{"id":115122,"date":"2015-01-21T19:44:11","date_gmt":"2015-01-22T02:44:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/dolores-to-gain-school-officer\/"},"modified":"2015-01-21T19:44:11","modified_gmt":"2015-01-22T02:44:11","slug":"dolores-to-gain-school-officer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/dolores-to-gain-school-officer\/","title":{"rendered":"Dolores to gain school officer"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dolores Schools will welcome a School Resource Officer back this week after spending the first half of the year without one.<\/p>\n<p>Dolores schools announced that Deputy Dave Van Bibber, a recently retired Colorado State Trooper with military experience, will join the schools on Jan. 22.<\/p>\n<p>Dolores School District Superintendent Scott Cooper said he and the principals met with newly elected Sheriff Steve Nowlin about school security last week and developed a plan for the School Resource Officer.<\/p>\n<p>The position will be fully funded by the Sheriff\u2019s Office,  Cooper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDeputy Dave\u201d Van Bibber will dress in business casual clothing while working on our campus. He will be armed, wear a badge and a school ID.  He will drive an unmarked patrol vehicle that will be parked near the front of the secondary schools.<\/p>\n<p>He will receive School Resource Officer training this spring and lead safety classes as needed or requested by counselors, the preschool director and principals, Cooper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSchool safety for our students and staff is job No. 1 for Deputy Dave,\u201d Cooper said.<\/p>\n<p>Van Bibber will tour the schools and facilities during his first week on the job to familiarize himself with buildings, schedules and routines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlease introduce yourself to him.
