{"id":114949,"date":"2015-01-29T19:42:03","date_gmt":"2015-01-30T02:42:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/work-delays-cliff-palace-opening\/"},"modified":"2015-01-29T19:42:03","modified_gmt":"2015-01-30T02:42:03","slug":"work-delays-cliff-palace-opening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/work-delays-cliff-palace-opening\/","title":{"rendered":"Work delays Cliff Palace opening"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Because of the complexity of preservation work at Cliff Palace next spring, Superintendent Cliff Spencer says the site won\u2019t open for ranger-guided tours until May 22.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope to complete the first phase of the on-site preservation work before the Memorial Day weekend,\u201d said Spencer.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning May 22, summer schedules are expected to be similar to past years\u2019. Work also may be required after Labor Day, and may cause tour reductions in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know this is a problem for some of our spring visitors,\u201d Spencer said.<\/p>\n<p>The park plans additional ranger-guided tours of Balcony House to provide options for travelers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first really extensive stabilization work done at Cliff Palace since it opened to public tours almost 100 years ago,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have to ask everyone to stay flexible as we work to protect this incredible place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In May, 2011, archaeologists discovered extensive cracks, wall deformation and structural movement in the southern half of Cliff Palace.
