Shaner took the oath of office at the Town Board meeting, and Mancos Municipal Judge Michael Goldman was appointed as a substitute.

Shaner is also the municipal judge for of Dolores and Cortez.

Former Mancos Judge Scott Moore resigned last year as an air and water pollution jury trial loomed against Western Excelsior. Moore wrote in his resignation letter that he wasn’t able to preside over a multiday trial because of other commitments.

The trial was canceled though jurors had been summoned. Charges may be refiled.

Board will examine Community Center flooring

After discussing flooring options for the Mancos Community Center, the Town Board schedules a floor inspection for March 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Trustee Matthew Baskin said that he wanted the board to consider using wood flooring, not just vinyl flooring. Estimates ranged from $4,255 for commercial carpet to $12,836 for wood floors.

“I’ve worked on homes with 100-year-old wood floors in them that are perfectly fine,” Baskin said.

Town Administrator Andrea Phillips said the Community Center’s floor is not presentable.

“Traditional cleaning methods do not work. The flooring before you enter the kitchen is buckling and scuffed and poses tripping hazards along with the carpet that shows all stains,” a staff report stated.

Short takes

Board members approved a liquor license transfer for Chavolo’s Mexican Restaurant from Edgar Ortiz to Chavolo Ortiz, his brother.

Board members decided not to seek a grant for a downtown consultant to implement downtown initiatives. The grant would require a $6,250 match.

“I think we can spend that $6,000 elsewhere, such as on more advertising,” trustee William Stone said. “If people don’t come off the highway, it doesn’t matter.”

“I think that $6,000 can be spent more wisely,” added Trustee Queenie Barz.

The board appointed John Bolton to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Bolton is a local contractor and homebuilder.

[6371
13

post-114213","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-mt-news","tag-frontpage-lead
["GET
