{"id":113299,"date":"2015-04-08T20:01:53","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T02:01:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/hampton-inn-to-open-in-may\/"},"modified":"2015-04-08T20:01:53","modified_gmt":"2015-04-09T02:01:53","slug":"hampton-inn-to-open-in-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/hampton-inn-to-open-in-may\/","title":{"rendered":"Hampton Inn to open in May"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:85c5b1ec-7ca8-4dbd-b371-c50c54b5fb2b --><\/p>\n<p>The first new hotel built in Cortez in 20 years is set to open May 29, just in time for the  tourism season, according to Hilton\/Hampton Inn officials.<\/p>\n<p>The 38,000-square-foot, 74-guest-room property on Hawkins Street \u2013 officially named Hampton Inn Mesa Verde\/Cortez \u2013 has been under construction since January 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The owner and developer of the property, Avik Amin of AAA Hotel Developers of Pueblo, said the design concept for the property is \u201cForever Young,\u201d featuring bright and airy decor, an indoor pool and hot tub, an outdoor patio with barbecue grills, a 24-hour fitness center, complimentary hot and cold breakfast and high-speed Internet, a 24-hour business office and an in-house mini convenience store.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe concept, \u2018Forever Young\u2019 is really something that Hilton has put out there to kind of make the hotels special. \u2026 They\u2019re going way light \u2013 colors white, everything is clean, crisp and super, super bright,\u201d said general manager Janice Christiansen.<\/p>\n<p>Prospective guests will be able to book online by the end of April, Amin and Christansen said. Hotel officials expect it to be booked through the beginning of fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re anticipating it to be pretty much full through October; they\u2019re not sure what it\u2019ll look like through winter. We have so many tourists in summer, and in the fall, hunters come through. \u2026 Cortez truly is a hub for people coming and going someplace. We have people coming from all over,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The hotel also is hiring through the Southwest Workforce Center on Main Street. About 20 positions are open, including maintenance engineers, guest services assistants, guest room assistants, linen assistants, and breakfast hostesses.<\/p>\n<p>Job candidates can pick up applications at the Southwest Workforce Center, and interviews are expected to begin next week at the Workforce Center. Candidates who love customer service and are \u201cnatural-born smilers\u201d will have a leg up on the competition, management said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPredominately, people we\u2019re looking for, you can tell when you see them, and we call it \u2018Hamptonality\u2019,\u201d Christansen said.<\/p>\n<p>Hampton Inn Mesa Verde\/Cortez is located at 2244 E. Hawkins St. The Southwest Workforce Center is located at 2208 E.
