The Western Music Association Colorado Showcase\/Jam will be Saturday, May 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mancos Library. It\u2019s free, but donations will be taken.<\/p>\n
From Mancos, yodeling cowgirl Lynne Belle Lewis and cowgirl poet Lindy Simmons will be featured artists. From Cortez, baritone Mark Baker and working cowboy Tim Krebs will offer more yodels. Four performers from outside Montezuma County will round out the program.<\/p>\n

Archaeologists discuss Petrified Forest<\/p>\n
The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society presents William Reitze at 7 p.m. May 5 at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St., Cortez.<\/p>\n
Reitze will discuss \u201cThe Petrified Forest National Park Boundary Expansion Project: Re-assessing Occupation and Land Use in El Desierto Pintado.\u201d He will discuss archaeological research on the expanded Petrified Forest National Park, including preliminary results on several recently discovered, large Basketmaker sites.<\/p>\n

Site-surveying class available at FLC<\/p>\n
Assistant State Archaeologist Kevin Black will teach a class on \u201cBasic Site Surveying Techniques\u201d from May 29 to June 1 at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.<\/p>\n
The 25-hour course is part of the Program for Avocational Archaeological Certification, and is open to the public. The cost for the class is $12.<\/p>\n
