Montezuma County Sheriff\u2019s deputy Ryan Hancock was dispatched to a home on the 29000 block of County Road L in reference to human remains in a garage. Upon arrival to the scene on Saturday, June 6, several boxes of bones including two human skulls were discovered.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were a total of four boxes,\u201d said Montezuma County Coroner George Deavers.<\/p>\n
According to Deavers, the previous owner, now deceased, was known to have unearthed Indian artifacts from the property.<\/p>\n
Deavers said that he receives similar calls about once a year, and it\u2019s not uncommon, considering that the area is known as an archaeological hot spot.<\/p>\n
Deavers said four boxes of human bones and skulls were found. One box was dated to the 1980s.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe identified possibly six different individuals,\u201d said Deavers. \u201cTheir ages are unknown.\u201d<\/p>\n
The remains were reburied Sunday on the property.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Colorado Archeology Society says for us to rebury the remains where they are found,\u201d said Deavers.<\/p>\n
Asked to describe the reporting party\u2019s reaction, Deavers said the man wasn\u2019t scared.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was more curious than anything,\u201d said Deavers. \u201cHe\u2019s not from here.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hancock reported the man was contracted by a mortgage company in New Jersey to clean the home.<\/p>\n
