Plans for a new Beny\u2019s Diner were approved by the Cortez City Council last week, allowing ownership of the popular South Broadway restaurant to expand an existing building on Main Street.<\/p>\n

According to paperwork filed with the city, Nunez purchased the lot that houses One Stop Taqueria and a vacant parcel next to it, with the vision of having two separate restaurants. The design team has since determined that remodeling the existing One Stop Taqueria would \u201creduce construction costs and add new light to the 1013 Main St. address.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nunez opened One Stop Taqueria in December 2012.<\/p>\n

Plans for the new Beny\u2019s location indicate that it will 4,386 square feet, seat 143 and will have 38 parking spots on the west and east and near the entrance of the building.<\/p>\n

There are two Main Street entrance points to the restaurant, and the Colorado Department of Transportation has requested that the one closest to Mildred Road be closed.<\/p>\n

Another side entrance on Mildred Road will remain open.<\/p>\n

Cortez city planner Tracie Hughes said the applicants met all setback and land use requirements, and on May 5 planning and zoning commission recommended approval.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
