Ramsay Midwood and his band will bring their rolling, whimsical style of country blues to the Dolores River Brewery on Friday, July 17.<\/p>\n

Midwood\u2019s four-piece group hails from Austin, Texas, and they just started a 14-show tour through the New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, and California.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re supposed to say we have a \u2018swampy sound\u2019 \u2019cause that\u2019s trendy, but I\u2019m going with old blues mixed with Boffalongo and King Harvest,\u201d Midwood told the Star.<\/p>\n

Midwood is an accomplished singer-songwriter who toured with the Arlo Guthrie folk family.<\/p>\n

He recorded his first album, \u201cShoot Out at the OK Chinese Restaurant\u201d in 2002 with Vanguard Records. \u201cPopular Delusions & the Madness of Cows\u201d was released in 2007, then \u201cLarry Buys a Lighter\u201d in 2011.<\/p>\n

Midwood\u2019s lyrics have an observational, dark-humor quality, backed up by melodic guitar\/banjo finger-picking with steady harmonic riffs on keyboard.<\/p>\n

Another album is pending, Midwood said, and each single will be released independently. He passed on any deep inspiration, \u201cUnanswerable, some new, some old, the next evolution of the band. We watch and listen to the world around us and make it up while we play.\u201d<\/p>\n

His website describes the music as psychedelic country blues; another review calls it \u201cGospel Music for Inspired Barflies.\u201d<\/p>\n

As far as adventures on the road, Midwood would not say, then offered having fun smashing a Phil Collins tape and using the shards as eating utensils.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe think we\u2019re the first band to do that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Now with kids to raise, Midwood does not tour as much, but he can\u2019t stop completely.<\/p>\n

\u201cLast time we played in Dolores it was a raging blizzard, and we barely made it,\u201d he recalls, looking forward to a warm summer show outdoors. \u201cWe\u2019ve got a lean, mean band and were excited to play for your local crowd.\u201d<\/p>\n
