{"id":110524,"date":"2015-08-04T14:34:11","date_gmt":"2015-08-04T20:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/livestock-sale-brings-in-170k\/"},"modified":"2015-08-04T14:34:11","modified_gmt":"2015-08-04T20:34:11","slug":"livestock-sale-brings-in-170k","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/livestock-sale-brings-in-170k\/","title":{"rendered":"Livestock sale brings in $170K"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:d6ae674c-7a1f-4e79-ac75-a7af3e96c855 --><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Junior Livestock Sale, which featured 107 animals raised by local 4-H members, brought in a grand total of $170,450 at the Aug. 1 event at the Montezuma County Fair.<\/p>\n<p>The Saturday afternoon sale included rabbits, goats, poultry, steers, lambs, and swine.<\/p>\n<p>The 2015 Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion animals brought in a total of $35,100 alone.<\/p>\n<p>The highest winning bid of the sale went to Keesee Motors for Cassidy Leonard\u2019s Reserve Grand Champion steer, for a total of $5,700.<\/p>\n<p>The number of 4-H kids and animals selling this year was up from last year, but last year\u2019s total was much higher, said 4-H Program Coordinator Tonya Yates. The 2014 Junior Livestock Sale netted $200,800.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s sale was also well attended, as the grandstands were completely full for most of the three-hour event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt fluctuates, sometimes it\u2019s higher, sometimes its lower, it\u2019s just different every year,\u201d said Yates on this year\u2019s grand total.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the slump in the grand total, Yates said she and the Montezuma County 4-H program were extremely grateful for the business and community support the program received at the sale, and year-round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey support us extremely well and it\u2019s appreciated.
