Three years ago, novelist Cricket Rohman quit her job as a school principal to follow her muse, and now she can\u2019t stop writing.<\/p>\n

Working on her fifth novel, the author finds inspiration from her cabin porch overlooking the West Fork River.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m obsessed with writing, and actually get anxious if I miss a day,\u201d she said, taking a rare break to answer the phone. \u201cOnce I get rolling, it is really wonderful and motivating.\u201d<\/p>\n

Drawing on her experience as an educator, Rohman wrote the School Days-Grimm Nights Trilogy, a series of romantic mysteries including \u201cKindergarten Baby,\u201d \u201cA Break in the Clouds,\u201d and \u201cThe Road Trip.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA teacher is the main character in all three books, and teachers are my biggest fans and followers,\u201d Rohman said. \u201cThe protagonist has a wonderful teaching career, but a pitiful love life and is not good at choosing men.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her fourth book, \u201cSaving Madeline,\u201d is being considered by a major New York publisher. It spins a tale about Hollywood, Alzheimer\u2019s and wounded warriors.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I was young, I moved to Hollywood to become a famous actor, but ended up in a few TV pilots and commercials for banks and Safeway,\u201d she said, laughing. \u201cI weave in the world of a working actor, an experience I had as my first career.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her current project is an intrigue for Harlequin set on a ranch similar those she sees from her cabin office.<\/p>\n

\u201cI get my ideas from real life, then they take off in my imagination,\u201d she said. \u201cOne of my big character themes is to never give up, and trust your gut.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rohman earned a master\u2019s degree in literature and philosophy from California State University.<\/p>\n

She will appear at the Dolores Public Library on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 1 to 3 p.m. Her novels will be available at discounted prices, and she plans to read excerpts, sign copies, and talk about writing and literature.<\/p>\n
